AFG provides a range of services that are designed to promote independence through rehabilitation and learning, assisting people to develop their lives in the ways that they choose. We do this using a range of approaches including the recovery model. In addition to our supported living services, we also support people through:

  • 6 Independent Hospitals  Mental Health rehabilitation services
  • 3 Adult Care Homes with Nursing  Mental Health and Learning Disability rehabilitation services
  • 7 Adult Care Homes  Learning Disability services

Independent Hospitals

In its Independent Hospitals Alternative Futures Group has developed a successful model of rehabilitation for people with severe and enduring mental health problems. These hospitals are small services ranging from 12 to 24 beds and are very much a part of the local community. The accommodation is made up of a mixture of en suite bedrooms and bed-sits, with service users progressing to the bed-sits as they become more independent and often then moving out into their own flats. This model is designed to support the rehabilitation of people requiring more intensive and prolonged intervention of up to 3 years. The Independent Hospitals take patients from Acute Admission units and from more secure settings and are registered to take detained patients. They are unique in the way they are integrated into the local mental health services taking admissions only through the local clinical team.
