A poem of inspiration

3 June 2008

Rachel lives in one of our Independent Hospitals and wrote this poem when she felt overwhelmed by her illness and was struggling to find explanations and answers to what she was experiencing.

Rachel feels that by sharing her poem with others, she can help them feel less alone in their experiences.

A declaration to the world

Am I free or am I trapped because of me?
From the onset the onlookers,
can me, myself and I work it out?
What is mental illness?
silence from my soul
Does it classify me as a person? A label?
Maybe it attacked me.
But as a fighter, a warrior, a soldier,
carrying no weaponry, only my naked soul,
dressed up in a deep lie, in my cross,
I carry as an honorary award of truth, love, hope and peace.
I know I have the strength,
the power and the will to survive
and to give something back to the world.
To take tomorrow and the next day as I find them,
so answers will come
and just one day….I might achieve my dreams.
