Sara, one of our Support Workers, shares how the enthusiasm to take part in the Race For Life shown by Linda, a lady who Sara supports, encouraged her and another member of staff, Jenny to join in the ‘fun’!
“One Tuesday evening I was enjoying a brew and a flick through a gossip magazine with Linda, a resident at Ryles Park Road. A leaflet fell out of the magazine and Linda asked me to read it. It was all about Race for Life. Linda got very excited as I read all how to take part. Her excitement was infectious and the next thing I heard myself say was that I would do it with her. Within the next few minutes, we had also roped in Jenny, Team Leader at Ryles Park Road. We found our local event and got ourselves enrolled – next stop was getting some sponsors! Thanks so much to all those who sponsored us.
All too soon, the day arrived! One word can sum up the whole experience and that is ‘WOW’! 3740 women took part; some survivors, some still fighting, and some running in memory of loved ones. What an atmosphere! We met so many inspirational people on our way round the course, which took us through some beautiful surroundings.
Linda had a great evening and so did we. Thank you Linda, for encouraging us to do something ‘outside the box’ and for letting us share your experience."
